"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." - Colossians 3:16
"If you live in my Word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." John 8:31, 32
Life in the Word is an integral part of our Life in Jesus program. The Word of God is the source and norm of Christian doctrine and life - a great starting point in instruction in life in Jesus. In the holy Bible, the Holy Spirit reveals Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world from sin, death and the power of the devil through his death on the cross for us.
In their family life, youth will begin discovery and experience in regular family devotions in the Word; celebration of Baptismal birthdays; celebration of church seasons; learning of Christian music, regular prayer in front of the family, preparing for and reviewing worship services; preparing for Holy Communion; family service projects; and regular modeling of stewardship of time, treasure and talents. Youth will also discover and experience being taught the Bible and catechism; the development of identity and integrity in Jesus; the regular review and living of the family faith story and mission; regular prayer for the lost and reaching out to the lost.
In the personal life arena, youth will begin practicing spiritual disciplines: daily devotions - including remembering their Baptism daily, spiritual journaling and preparation for Holy Communion. They will also be encouraged in anonymous service and stewardship of their time, talents and treasure.
Youth will begin developing a strong identity and character in Jesus; a personal mission/calling; a lifestyle witness and regular prayer for and sharing the Gospel with others. Our desire is that youth will gradually mature into an adult understanding of life in Jesus.
In the church-life arena, youth will discover and experience a thorough overview of the Bible, including a complete Bible read-through by 6th grade, memorization of key Bible verses, and regular prayer with and in front of others.
Youth will also learn and memorize Luther's Small Catechism.
At the end of the two years, youth will prepare and deliver a personal testimony. On a Sunday in April youth will participate in the Life in the Word event [a discipleship event] similar to a traditional confirmation service.
