"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." - Colossians 3:16
We offer classes on Sunday mornings led by skilled teachers on a variety of discipleship topics. We support and encourage weekly home and small groups studies through resources and promotion. We encourage all adults in our faith family to consider being in a group Bible Study to nurture their faith. We are open to and encourage suggestions of studies.
The main purpose of Life in Jesus Adults is to provide an open nurturing environment for adults to experience life in Jesus and to be encouraged and equipped to pass on the faith to the next generation.
This is a series of study segments that help families grow spiritually, passing on Christian faith to their children at key age levels. These studies occur at various times during the year. Each segment ends with a blessing by parents over their children in a worship service.
Do I want “$3 worth of God” - “not enough to explode my soul or disturb my sleep”, as writer Wilbur Rees put it? Is three dollars worth of the cross enough to include profound joy... and persecution? Persecution?!? . . . Too scary to think about, much less talk about! And what does it have to do with my joy? And isn’t suffering for Christ “off limits” for me, an American Christian? Is suffering really “a privilege”? And if it’s a privilege I don’t want?! What could Christians in “restricted nations” possibly have to teach us? Good questions? The Word has the answers and the Body of Christ has the perspective. Let’s dig in together.
When Jesus asked Peter: “Who do you say that I am?” He was asking a question that was at the same time very simple and incredibly complex. The early Church struggled with the same question: “Who do you say that I am?” For 300 years it worked to separate the orthodox from the heretical by getting the complexities right.
In “Jesus: The One and Only” we will answer Jesus’ question to Peter in three parts. Part One will examine the work of the early Church as it answered the question is all its complexity. As a result we will understand why the three Creeds of the Church are written as they are, and what was excluded along the way. In Part Two we will sharpen our ability to discern Jesus: the One and Only from the heretical versions of Jesus that man has created and still creates today. In Part Three we will spend time sharpening our ability to answer Jesus’ question so that when non-believers ask us: “Who do you say that Jesus is?” we can answer in a clear and confident way.
(Starting September 27)
Dr. Delbert Hillers' insightful study will provide the outline and much content for this enriching encounter with a key biblical concept. Tracing the concept of covenant from Noah and Abraham to the Exodus and Israel's experience at Mt. Sinai, one appreciates how God's revelation unfolded historically through specific happenings and how inspired writers shared the story via human language. Fulfillment dawns when Jesus instituted a sacred meal in which He said, "take, drink, this cup is the new covenant in my blood." What spiritual nurture awaits us in this journey through Scripture on the trail of "the biblical concept of covenant".
(Starting November 15)
Many of us have difficulty “getting into the Bible”. My discussion group will share ideas on how to apply Scripture to our lives. I will present various ways to “search the Scripture” for personal meditation and application. Come and see.
