"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." - Colossians 3:16
“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect”. - 1 Peter 3:15
People believe in lots of things. They believe in yoga to strengthen their core (or Pilates or ab machines, or 50 crunches a day). They believe in medicines to fix high blood pressure (or diet or exercise or herbals or relaxation). They believe organic food is best (or local or natural or vegetarian). People do believe in lots of things.
As Christians we believe in the Bible. But, the Bible is so long. There is much to know. It’s all a bit overwhelming. How can we tell others what we believe simply and clearly? Peter encourages us to be ready to tell others. (I Peter 3:15). We have a summary of what we believe in three easy paragraphs. It’s called the Apostles Creed. This was written to help the early church, and us, express our faith clearly. Another way to be prepared to tell about Jesus is to look for God-sightings. Simply share how God is at work in your life. These are a good way to start or end family devotions. Practicing God sightings at home with people who “get it” prepares everyone in the family to share the hope that we have with others.
Jesus, You have given us hope. When others wonder about the hope that we have, help us point to You. Help us do this with gentleness and respect. Amen.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this devotional. May God Bless your study of His Word in this Alive in Jesus study.
