The Hard Choice - For you or for someone else?

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." - Colossians 3:16

Life in the Cross - Devotion 5

“But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”  - Joshua 24:15

The question that you get to answer every day is, "Am I going to live for myself today or am I going to bless others?". Living to bless others is living to serve God. Jesus tells us “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine you have done for me” (Matthew 25:40).

For example I have a house with a yard and if you want to bless me, you can take care of my stuff. For example; walk my dogs, water my garden, clean my dishes, cut my grass, pay my electric bill and more. Those are examples of things that would bless me. Why would those things bless me? Because that is my stuff and I care about it, because it is mine.

In the same way taking care of other people is living to serve God. He loves and cares for everyone he created. If you give attention to the needs of others you are really denying yourself and choosing to serve God. How will you choose to serve others today?

Dear Lord, each day I can choose to serve You by blessing others. May I do so as I boldly proclaim “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Amen.
