Be Aware of the Battle

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." - Colossians 3:16

Life in the Cross - Devotion 4

“The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”  - Galatians 5:19-23

Realize that the battle between your sinful nature and the Spirit of God is going on within you daily. It doesn’t make you a bad Christian, it only qualifies you as a human disciple. The fact is that the battle is a good sign that you are on the road to growing in life in the cross. If there is no battle it may be a sign that the sinful nature is winning the battle.

Dear Lord, thank you for the areas of sin You have helped me overcome. May I continue to show outward signs of the fruit of the Spirit in my life. Amen.
