The World Needs Us

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." - Colossians 3:16

Life in Service - Devotion 4

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me’”.  - Matthew 25:35-40

In July, we as a congregation were challenged to participate in a program to provide 100,000 meals for starving people in the poorest parts of the world. While the meal was seemingly small by comparison to our super-sized way of life, it provided daily nourishment to those in need. Whether we participated in a monetary way or by actually packing the food packs, our service was truly helping others. We have other ways to serve in our own community, especially with our Thanksgiving Basket Program or our continual Feed My Lambs program. Through these efforts we can serve others. Again, our God given gifts of time, talent and treasure are re-directed to show those around us who we are. We’re Christians - followers of Jesus.

Dear Lord, let us be ever mindful of Your command to feed the hungry, grant kindness to strangers and tend to the sick and imprisoned. Continue to bless others through these programs at our church. Amen.
