Simple Things in our Lives

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." - Colossians 3:16

Life in Service - Devotion 1

“…let your light so shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven”  - Matthew 5:16

In our complicated world today, we see many things that draw us well beyond our comprehension zone. How many times have you said, “That’s amazing! ” or “How did they do that? ” After all these years, two things still amaze me to this day, how airplanes can fly and how babies come to be. It’s simply too much once and a while.

With all this complexity, we forget the simple things that we can do to make a difference and serve the Lord. Let me give you an example. Ever see a piece of trash ‘close’ to where it should have gone – the garbage can? What would happen if everyone simply picked it up and plopped it where it was destined simply because it was the right thing to do? Simple? Absolutely! Effective? Absolutely! Rewarding? Absolutely not! But showing others where and when we are willing to serve – priceless!! Jesus gave us many examples of that type of service. Blind men were sighted, children were healed, dead men rose from the grave. This is all very amazing stuff that was done by Jesus in service to those around him. What a great example of service that we, too, can get involved. Even if it means doing a small and thankless task of picking up someone else’s trash! Don’t wait to be asked!

Dear Lord, may Your name be praised every time I am the true servant You have called me to be. Amen.
