Spiritual Roadblocks

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." - Colossians 3:16

Life in Jesus Pathway - Devotion 3

Several streets were so flooded last June that they had to be closed down. Roadblocks were put in place that prevented any traffic from attempting to go through. The cement barriers on River Road kept even the most daring from going any farther.

Sometimes there are roadblocks that stop us from growing in Christ. You still believe in Christ, but you are stalled and your faith isn’t growing. Addictions, bad habits, inappropriate relationships, emotional issues, and many other sinful behaviors are significant barriers to spiritual growth. “Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” Colossians 3:9. Like a soiled and stained shirt, Paul tells us to take off the things that belong to our old, sinful nature. In its place, Paul says to “clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:12-13.

Getting unstalled in your relationship with God may involve repentance and putting off old sinful ways. Put on your new life in Jesus and become more God-focused.

Dear Lord, help me be committed to telling the truth, especially to myself. May I repent of the sin in my life so I may continue to grow in my relationship with You. Amen.
