Speak the Truth in Love

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." - Colossians 3:16

Life in Jesus Pathway - Devotion 4

We need to hear the truth in order to grow and mature in our Life in Jesus. Not only does the world lie to us on a daily basis, we all have a built-in tendency to compromise the truth about God and about ourselves. It’s always hard for my pride to accept the fact that I need a brother or sister in Christ to point out my blind spots. I need someone to speak the truth to me about my harsh tone of voice, or the unkind words that came out of my unclean heart, or a portion of God’s word that I need to hear. “Speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” Ephesians 4: 15-16.

Most of us avoid this kind of accountability. However, our reluctance to be held accountable by a Christian friend or other H.O.M.E. group members holds us back from maturing on the Life in Jesus pathway. “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.” Ephesians 4:14.

Love is the driving force in any maturity project we undertake. Humbly pray for a spirit of mutual love and unity as we grow together.

Dear Lord, You are “the way and the truth and the life”(John 14:6). As Your follower, may I be committed to the truth, both in speaking it and receiving it. Amen.
