God's Disciples

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." - Colossians 3:16

Life in Jesus - Devotion 1

“For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.” - John 17:8 and 18

Recently, I was able to travel with 29 youth and adults to Peru on a mission trip.We were definitely on a mission to make a difference in the lives of people. Initially we thought our mission was just to touch the lives of the people in the jungle with the love of Jesus. But our focus widened as we saw opportunities to tell people about Jesus’ love in airports, restaurants, banks, buses; basically everywhere we went.

A great book I have been reading lately is Milfred Minatrea’s “Shaped by God’s Heart”. He describes the mission of a church as a life-giving missional community of authentic disciples. We at BLC seek to be that kind of faith community through our mission statement “connecting people to life in Jesus”. In order to grow and be equipped in our mission we are in Word and Sacrament worship weekly and pray for transformation by the Holy Spirit so that we can connect others to the life-giving message of Jesus. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Lord, I love that we are a community that reflects Your heart through everything we do. May we always turn back to point all the glory to You. Amen.
