Chosen by God

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." - Colossians 3:16

Life in Jesus - Devotion 4

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.” - John 15:16

So were you the kid that was always chosen first for a team? Or were you the one standing on the side chosen last? I was always towards the end of the kids being chosen for a team. You may know what that feels like to want to be a part of something but others may not recognize your contribution to the effort.

When it comes to God’s Kingdom, I have good news for you! You were chosen! He even chose you before you knew of Him and His plan. He created you for this time and this place for His plan. There is no better team or group to want to be a part. The funny part is we didn’t choose His mission because it sounded good or it was a solid plan and apply to be a part of it. He chose us first and sent the Holy Spirit to work in our hearts to prepare us for his purpose.

Isaiah 43:1, 7 But now, this is what the LORD says — he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”

As disciples, we have the opportunity to enjoy witnessing the beauty of God’s handiwork as through His church, God invites people to be transformed by the dynamic Gospel of grace and love.

Lord, may we be worthy of being called by Your name. Amen.

This reminded me that God specializes in calling the second team players to show His glory. In I Corinthians 1:26-31 Paul speaks about this. I'm completely unworthy. But I try to thank God every day for the honor and responsibility of his call.
